Internationally acclaimed architect Frank Gehry will be the inaugural speaker for the new Kusske Lecture & Dialogue Series. In conversation with Jennifer Yoos, head of the School of Architecture, Gehry will discuss his career trajectory and how his visual language evolved.

This is an in-person event; Gehry will join the event virtually from his studio in Los Angeles. A panel discussion will follow the conversation between Gehry and Yoos and will include Wearable Technology Lab Co-Director Brad Holschuh, Associate Professor Tejas Dhadphale, and landscape designer Jordan Hedlund (MLA ’21).

Frank Gehry

Frank Owen Gehry, CC, FAIA, is a Los Angeles-based architect and designer whose pioneering designs have become global landmarks. He is a recipient of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, the Arnold W. Brunner Memorial Prize in Architecture from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and the American Institute of Architects’ Gold Medal, among many other honors. Gehry’s work has been exhibited in museums including the Walker Art Center, Centre Georges Pompidou, the Vitra Design Museum, and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum.

Jennifer Yoos

Jennifer Yoos, FAIA, LEED AP (B.Arch ’91), practiced architecture both independently and with firms in Minneapolis and London prior to joining VJAA as a design principal in 1997. Yoos received her graduate diploma in design from the Architectural Association in London and her professional degree in architecture from the University of Minnesota. Yoos is a member of the American Institute of Architects College of Fellows. She teaches architecture, most recently as the head of the School of Architecture in the College of Design at the University of Minnesota, and previously at Cooper Union, Washington University in St. Louis, and the University of Arkansas. Yoos was co-author with partner Vincent James of a monograph on their practice published by Princeton Architectural Press as well as the book Parallel Cities: The Multilevel Metropolis, published by the Walker Art Center.

Brad Holschuh

Brad Holschuh is an associate professor of apparel design, director of graduate studies for the human factors and ergonomics program, and co-director of the Wearable Technology Lab. He earned his SB, dual SM, and PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Holschuh’s research focuses on the use of wearable technology to improve human performance both in space and on Earth. His work encompasses wearable technology, soft robotics, human factors design, textile engineering, aerospace engineering and bioastronautics, and materials science.

Tejas Dhadphale

Tejas Dhadphale is an associate professor of product design. He received his PhD from the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University. His research examines the relationship between culture, design thinking, and research methods in design education and practice. He teaches courses in culture of objects, design research methods, design thinking, creative thinking, transdisciplinary new product innovation, and human-centered design.

Jordan Hedlund

Jordan Hedlund is a landscape designer at Ten x Ten whose work focuses on the intersection of design, nature, and community. He received his BED in landscape planning and Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Minnesota. Hedlund is a member of the College of Design Advisory Board and the Equity Planning Committee of the American Society of Landscape Architecture–Minnesota.
